Garfield Attendance Policy

Attendance Requirements: Utah’s Compulsory Education Law states that all school age children must be in attendance at school unless there is a valid and legitimate excuse (Utah Code 53-A-11-101).

Garfield County School District defines attendance expectations and shared responsibilities for student learning as stated below:

Flex Direct
Garfield/Harmony provides: 

  • A weekly lesson delivered by a certified teacher 
  • Assessments given biweekly and reported to Garfield Online
  • Targeted support for students who are not grade level proficient 
  • 504/IEP services as appropriate
  • Related services as specified in IEP

Parent/Guardian provides:

  • Curriculum instruction (Tier 1)
  • Completes weekly question log in Canvas
  • Administration of biweekly assessments
  • Implementation of IEP/504 accommodations
  • Assurance of quality core instruction (appropriate time per week, appropriate curriculum, appropriate environment, etc.)

Flex Independent
Garfield/Harmony provides:

  • Assessments given biweekly and reported to Garfield
  • Targeted support for students who are not grade level proficient 
  • 504/IEP services as appropriate
  • Related services as specified in IEP

Parent/Guardian provides:

  • Curriculum instruction (Tier 1)
  • Completes weekly question log in Canvas
  • Administration of biweekly assessments
  • Implementation of IEP/504 accommodations
  • Assurance of quality core instruction (appropriate time per week, appropriate curriculum, appropriate environment, etc.)

Portfolio
Garfield/Harmony provides:

  • Access to curriculum (chosen by parent/guardian)
  • Targeted support for students who are not grade level proficient 
  • 504/IEP services as appropriate
  • Related services as specified in IEP

Parent/Guardian provides:

  • Curriculum instruction (Tier 1)
  • Completes weekly question log in Canvas
  • Administration of biweekly assessments and reports to Garfield
  • Quarterly submission of portfolio to show progress
  • Implementation of IEP/504 accommodations as appropriate under the guidance of assigned special education or 504 case manager
  • Assurance of quality core instruction (appropriate time per week, appropriate curriculum, appropriate environment, etc.)

Online Curriculum
Garfield/Harmony provides:

  • Access to curriculum (chosen by parent/guardian)
  • Targeted support for students who are not grade level proficient 
  • 504/IEP services as appropriate
  • Related services as specified in IEP

Parent/Guardian provides:

  • Curriculum instruction (Tier 1)
  • Completes weekly question log in Canvas
  • Administration of biweekly assessments and reports to Garfield
  • Implementation of IEP/504 accommodations as appropriate

Garfield County School District will email truancy letters for any students not meeting the attendance requirements. Attendance/Truancy procedures will be:

  • Day 5- Teacher/Mentor will check in with the students. Will offer academic guidance, or provide additional support as needed.
  • Day 7- First truancy letter will be emailed
  • Day 9- Second truancy/ withdrawal notice will be emailed.
  • Day 10- Student will be withdrawn from Garfield County School District.
