The Harmony Flex Program
Available at select schools only.
Curriculum and other learning materials are provided by Harmony, at no cost to the family. Parents select learning materials relating to the course using the student’s funding allowance. Harmony will purchase the supplies and ship them directly to your home. Reimbursement is also available.
Mentors and instructors provide support as your children learn in dynamic ways.


Selecting Curriculum
You will meet with a Harmony mentor to create a Student Success Plan (SSP) for your child. Mentors answer questions about courses and curriculum so that your child’s SSP best meets their learning style and needs. Parents select learning materials relating to the course using the student’s funding allowance.
Harmony purchases and ships your child’s curriculum, so there are no out-of-pocket expenses for your family

- Curriculum and books related to the Flex core subject
- Equipment required for the selected course (such as microscopes and other science supplies)
- This excludes religiously-based curriculum and materials.

Curriculum Resource Directory
The Curriculum Resource Directory is designed to assist you in planning and teaching course topics. No more time-consuming internet searches! We’ll do the heavy lifting for you, freeing your time for what is truly important – working with your children. The Curriculum Resource Directory provides K-8 Flex resources for language arts, math, social studies and science courses. Additional resources will be added as time goes on.
Here’s what you’ll find in the Curriculum Resource Directory:
- Online learning materials such as videos, reading materials, and activities linked to specific worksheets
- Learning materials to supplement your child’s curriculum
- Online resources to help plan a unit study related to a Flex worksheet
Course Outlines and Parent Handbooks
With the Flex course outlines and packets, you’ll be able to truly plan your Flex courses in a way that works best for your family.
- A course outline for each Flex course is included in the Harmony course catalog. You’ll have access to these outlines during the summer so you can select curriculum and plan your child’s school year.
- A Flex Parent Handbook containing worksheets, a worksheet checklist, submission schedules, answer keys and upload instructions will be mailed to you at the start of the school year. Portfolio standards will also be included in the Handbook.
- Parents are encouraged to use the answer keys to check student work and then review missed questions with student so that the student may make corrections before submission.


Flex Portfolio
Harmony has introduced a new portfolio-based Flex option to meet the needs of our families. You may choose to submit student portfolio items and/or to complete Flex worksheets. The Flex Parent Handbook will include an outline for portfolio submissions that can be used to match with the student’s curriculum. Portfolio submissions will follow the same schedule as worksheet submissions.

What Types of Curriculum Options Are Available for a Flex Course?
Examples of the types of curriculum that may be selected include:
- Books, textbooks, workbooks, math manipulatives, pre-packaged science kits, project-based learning activities, and online subscriptions.
- Religious-based curriculum and learning materials are not available.
What are Worksheets?
To enable students and parents to select which questions to answer, students may complete a minimum of 75% of worksheet questions, and grading will be based on this guideline.
- Applies to English/Language Arts, Social Studies/History, and Science courses for all grades.
- Does not apply to Math or Elective courses.
How Much Time Will It Take to Complete the Worksheets?
The time required for each worksheet depends upon several factors:
- grade level
- standards that are included
- student ability

How Often Are Worksheets Submitted?
- Grades K-8: 1 worksheet per course every 2 weeks
- Kindergartens will submit 6 additional worksheets during the year.
Students enrolled in a Flex course agree to submit the worksheets by the due dates, and this meets the attendance requirement for this program.
How Should Worksheets Be Scheduled?
- Customize your child’s education by matching the worksheets to their curriculum.
- Create a unit study based on worksheet topics.
- Determine the sequence for learning the concepts and completing the worksheets. Students may complete and submit worksheets in any order.
- Decide the amount of time students need to learn course topics.
- Have students redo worksheets and resubmit them.
Can Worksheets Be Completed On the Computer?
This comment feature enables students to complete worksheets on the computer, eliminating the need to print them out and then scan them back in.
While this may work best with secondary students who can complete and submit the files themselves, it may also be helpful for elementary students.

How Are Grades Determined?
- Worksheets submitted prior to the end of each semester will be included in the grading for that semester.
- Students may redo worksheets and resubmit them.
Teachers at the school or district of enrollment review the work that is submitted.
- A final semester grade is assigned by the school or district of enrollment.
- Grading systems vary among schools and by grade level and may include pass/fail, a number system, or a letter system.
