End of 1st Semester
Mark your calendars for the end of first semester, which will be on Dec. 20 this year. This is the final date that students can work in online courses and is also the final date to submit Flex worksheets or quizzes. The second portfolio review is due on Dec. 6 and should be submitted no later than Dec. 13 (see below for more information).
The 2nd portfolio submission due date will be on Dec. 6. The 2nd portfolios need to be submitted no later than Dec. 13 to give time for the teachers to review and grade them before the end of the semester on Dec. 20. Since the 2nd Portfolio is due on Dec. 6, the learning log for that date is optional.
The guidelines for portfolios are as follows:
- 5-8 portfolio items per subject.
- Items need to show student work, and examples could include worksheets, reports, tests/quizzes, science projects, etc. Remember that portfolio Items should be the student’s actual work, not a learning log or description of what the student has been doing.
- Portfolio items need to be grade-level work.
- Portfolio items need to demonstrate student work over the course of at least 2 months.
If you have any questions about portfolios, please contact your mentor.
Provo eSchool has announced information about upcoming STEM Fairs. This year eSchool will join local schools in their STEM Fairs instead of holding one of its own. Students in grades 7-8 will participate at Dixon Middle School on January 17, 2020. Students in grades K-6 will participate at Westridge Elementary School; grades K-3 will be on January 15, 2020, and grades 4-6 on January 16, 2020. This is an optional activity for interested students.
The STEM page on eSchool’s website (https://provo.edu/eschool/eschool-and-stem/) is the best place to go to find all the information you need on types of projects, presentation guidelines, judging rubrics (for grades 5-8), registration forms and due dates.
Registration forms for the Westridge Elementary STEM Fair are due Wednesday, December 18, 2019. Please send them to eSchool@provo.edu, and they’ll be delivered to the STEM coordinator at Westridge.
Dixon Middle School will be sending out information on preparing for science fairs right after the new year, so interested students should email eSchool@provo.edu with their name, grade, and email by January 6, 2020, so that they can receive all the information.
Resource ordering is open now through January 31. Please note that orders placed in December are not guaranteed delivery before Christmas. Also, remaining funds for students in a family may not be combined for ordering.
You can check your student’s funding balance by logging into the Family Resource Center and clicking on Student Success Plan > View Resource Allocation Balance.
You can also check the status of your resource request by logging in to the Family Resource Center and clicking on Student Success Plan > View Your Resource Requests.
If there is a problem with your resource order, you can contact the ordering department by going to Student Success Plan > Request Resources > Get Help with an Existing Order (Submit a Help Desk Ticket). You may leave comments related to missing items, provide additional information, etc.
Wishing your family a wonderful holiday season!
